This my theory.
When you are a small person Christmas is great. Then you grow up and it gets a bit shit.
Then you get your own small people and suddenly, Christmas is great again. Then they grow up and it goes back to being a bit shit.
I have no personal experience of the following but observation of others leads me to believe that eventually your own ex-small people bring more small people into their and your world and Christmas becomes great again.

I love christmas, i get about 8 to 10 days off, shed loads of footy on TV and loads of excuses to go the pub, apart from the carols, festive shit and family you hate its great

I like the public holidays and being able to relax and spend time with friends and family, however I absolutely detest the rabid commercialisation of the season. Brands and retailers just see it as a cash cow to milk and to peddle their products on the "plebs" to spend/ waste their hard earned money.
The commercialisation of modern society is a major factor in the consumer debt culture that has developed in recent years.

Most of the year moaning and pissing about anything and everything then along come a couple of days to forget that shit and actually enjoy a bit of harmless merry making, I'm not religious so don't do christmas oh di fuck off, it stopped being religiously significant tonks ago. Tell you what let the rest of us enjoy a few days off with friends and family having a pleasant time without having to worry about work and then we can go back to listening to how shit everything is the other 360 odd days of the year.

If there's one thing I'd like banned it's adverts mentioning xmas more than two weeks away from the 25/12. And the same for any chistmassy music on the radio.
We're more than five weeks away from xmas and already it's driving me clean round the twist. For my sanity just shut the fuck up you cynical, greedy cunts.
By the way, I've never liked New Year. What's so special about it? Nothing.
